thanksgiving break! estoy escuchando: klaus badelt - pirates of the caribbean soundtrack
w00t, finally on thanksgiving break! and it's been positively awesome so far. yesterday after school, i went out to dinner with kat. i owed her some money so i just took her out for dinner at bjs (this kind of crazy mix between hard rock and a brewery with really good pizza) to pay her back. i had never been there, but it turned out to be awesome and i had a lot of fun. originally we were trying to get other friends to come too but no one else could, so it was just the two of us. afterwards, we headed to barnes & noble to buy the glass menagerie for school. we, by chance, happened to run into her parents (who were like "thought you were at dinner") and jenny who was there with her parents. and kat and jenny also saw other people that they knew, so it was like "meet people that you know at b&n night." crazy. we had some starbuck's hot chocolate and sat and talked and leafed through our books some. a really awesome night, all in all. i should get out more often.
today, my brother had his last soccer game of the season, and so we all went out to that. afterwards they were headed to mr. gatti's (pizza joint) for their end of the year celebration/ceremony and i went and picked up leif and we met them there. then our whole family (and leif and megan's friend bonnie) went out to the movies to see elf. it was pretty hilarious. go see it. nothing better than will ferrel in tights. well, except, maybe will ferrel in tights with wings would be better. who knows?
anyway, i also saw the return of the king trailer tonight and it made me want to cry at my complete unworthiness of even seeing the trailer, it looks so good. i can't wait. i also need to actually finish the book first, so maybe i can do that before school eats my head again. i'm slated for the art museum on monday, and galveston for history extra credit on tuesday, then thankgiving on thursday, and doing things with family on saturday, so pretty busy. but we'll see.

ahh... relaxation! this thanksgiving break has just been really great. i've gotten a chance to work on catching up on my reading. at the moment, i'm trying to get through a couple issues of entertainment weekly that i'm behind, and also trying desperately to get through return of the king before the movie comes out.
yesterday i went to galveston with kat, michelle, ben, andy, and lauren for an extra credit project for u.s. history. we had to look for like three historical markers that had to do with the civil war and also find and take a picture of a building that had been hit by a cannonball during the battle of galveston. we went down there in the morning and got everything done pretty quickly (but not before we paid $6 for parking *shakes fist*). in the middle of our little walking tour, we happened upon a rather large parking sign that had fallen off its pole, so, um, we took it. ben just picked it up and ran across the street with it, and we hid it in a bush until we could bring my car back over to it. so, uh, i think it's going to get put in the band hall when we're back in school. o:o) *acts like sign stealing isn't a felony* then went to get nana so we could take her out to lunch with us. we went to the spot (which is an independent burger place right on the beach that's really good) and i think everyone had a good time. and nana got to meet all my friends, which was cool. i think they liked her. after that andy and lauren had to go home, but we went out for a round of mini-golf where we all performed equally badly. i had a great time, and i think we all decided that some time we want to come down to galveston to go to the rainforest café with a big group of friends. it may be something to plan for for the summer.
after we came back home, i met mom at the mall so we could do some shopping. i wasn't there five minutes before i spent all of my money and about half of my soul at sam goody and suncoast. at suncoast, i got stargate sg-1 season 4 on dvd ($70), x2: x-men united on dvd ($20), and i also put down a payment on pirates of the caribbean ($5). at sam goody, i bought the return of the king soundtrack ($20), and renewed my replay membership for another two years ($15). so, i now owe discover card, inc. the nice sum of $130. *waves byebye to birthday money*
and speaking of money, that brings up something crazy that my parents are doing. mom decided a while back that she wanted a room in the attic where we can put the tv so that we would have more room in the house for... whatever. i guess she just doesn't want it so cluttered and full. in any case, now dad is actually up for the idea of trying to construct it. but here's the fun part, we're going to try to do it without her noticing. it's going to take a lot of work, too. i mean, like, rerouting air conditioning ducts and stuff. our next door neighbor, one of my mom's best friends, and two of my uncles all work in construction and building, so we're going to try to recruit them to help us. it should be crazy. but anyway, here's the doubly fun part. mom wants to buy dad a big screen tv (or even now a tv projector, she's thinking). so, i'm envisioning this brand new awesome room in the attic with a tv projector. somehow i'm wondering how exactly my parents are planning on paying for it. but i'm not going to question. :op
anyway, i just got back from seeing timeline with leif and greg. the acting was horrendous, but the movie was entertaining, i guess. it seems like it could have been a really cool movie, and i would suspect that the book by michael crichton was probably way better than the film. maybe if steven spielberg made it like he did for jurassic park. oh well. *shrug*
i'm off to thanksgiving with my dad's side of the family in about an hour, so i'll update more later.

this part-blog, part-phlog is an unreliably updated account of my adventures and misadventures. it has no real cohesive theme, but i'm apt at any moment to digress into rants on language, politics, film, and technology, or anything else that interests me at the time. for more about me and this blog, click here.
