depressed estoy escuchando: james horner - apollo 13 soundtrack
sigh. school's been brutal and it's only the second week. three day weekend for labor day, but it really doesn't seem to be helping at all. i still feel overworked and stressed. i have this feeling that i have a playing test in band that i'm totally forgetting about because i sort of remember reading the date "sept. 2" for something. but i intentionally left all of my schoolwork and my horn at school, so i really wouldn't know or have any way of preparing. whatever. somehow i've stopped caring about band. imagine that. i need to read some more scarlet letter, but darned if i'm going to be able to convince myself to do that.
am more depressed this weekend because of dragon*con. i know i've been wallowing in self-pity over this for months, but i knew that this week was going to be depressing. i honestly think that last year in atlanta was the best fun i've ever had in my life. i'll get over it, but i just can't help but think that i'd so much rather have been doing that than sitting here trying to convince myself to do schoolwork. bleh. two weeks down, thirty-three to go.

::sees life eaten by large dinosaur:: so i've been kind of busy lately. and in reminiscing about the good ol' days of c++, i present to you... andy's upgrade to java 2 sdk 1.4.2:
public class andysblog {
public static void main (string[] args) {
system.out.println("hello, world!");
}
}
we went to the mall tonight after church to eat, and ended up shopping for allen's birthday. i got him the first book in the merlin series by t. a. barron that i had started when i was in sixth grade (he's in fifth now) and we met this really nice girl in the fantasy section who goes to creek. she was actually the one who gave the suggestion of the merlin series. wish she went to lake. not necessarily for romanticish/girlfriend purposes, just because she seems like she'd be a cool friend. will perhaps see her at football game or something. then we were checked out either by michael jackson or a very unconvincing transvestite (i suspect the latter. she had stubble). anyway, then dad brought allen into the bookstore to find us, and so he totally knows what he's getting now. way to go.
oh, and finished for whom the bell tolls. had a test on it on friday, so am taking that off the side for now, and replacing it with the scarlet letter and soul music. soul music doesn't have any chapters, so i guess i'll just go by page numbers.

not quite mia i know i've been totally absent for a long time, and i apologize, but i've just been swamped. school is a lot better than it was last year, but it's still consuming my whole life (especially band). anyway, to try to catch up on some things...
last tuesday (after labor day), we came into school to find that it had been heavily vandalized. now, imaginative and social-statement-making grafitti is one thing. "fuck teachers" and large penises just suck. i mean, people are dumb. anyway, they're estimating about $14,000 in damages (since they broke a lot of electronics equipment as well). if i knew who did it, i could be rolling in $1,000 from crimestoppers right now. too bad i don't. next day, someone lights a fire in the guy's bathroom. outside for 59 minutes, naturally, since after an hour distric policy states we can go home. can't get any money from crimestoppers for this one either. i wish i knew some delinquents. i could use the moola.
we've had three football games so far. won two, got creamed in one. so far the band directors have just been pretty dumb. yes. also went in to talk to head director about missing this week's game for quiz bowl in plano (!), but he just blew us off, so the assistant just kind of shrugged and assented.
this weekend i spent over at bryan's house because his parents were out of town and i think they wanted me to make sure he didn't have any wild parties while they were gone. ;o) he and i both think they probably trust me more than him, haha. it was fun, we just kind of hung out and stuff. actually we went to go see dickie roberts at the movies. the first half of it dragged and a lot of it just wasn't funny, but there were some hilarious parts in the second half, and the ending was just priceless (stay during the credits). actually, i really have to commend david spade, because i never knew he could pull off dramatic as well as he can pull off funny. part of me wished that the movie had been a drama instead of a comedy because it might have fit better to that genre... who knows. it was entertaining for $5, though. so no complaints here.
today i went to go get nana to bring her back to stay with us for a while (not sure how long she'll be staying... but i'll be leaving on friday for plano anyway). then i went to my first confirmation meeting of the year (sucks). and i concluded the day by blatantly not doing any homework or practicing my scales for testing tomorrow. oh well, whatcha gonna do about it?

plano! having nana over was nice. she listened to me read my american history book out loud to her, because she likes stuff like that, and i needed to study. next time she's up here, i need to get a hold of some kind of recorder that i transfer to my computer, and then recorder her telling her stories when she doesn't know it. she's always telling all these stories, and i'd really like to get them recorded and then maybe transcribe them into a book of stories, and then have her telling the actual stories on a cd. then i could give the book and cd out to family members for christmas, since i'm sure they'd like having a copy of all her stories... she has so many. the problem is that when she knows she's being taped or recorded, she tends to get nervous or she'll stumble or won't tell the story right, so it's better if she doesn't know. anyway, i keep saying i need to do it, but i really need to do it.
today was an early release day at school, yet we still managed to have band practice. between school and practice (which was about three hours), i went out to lunch at cici's pizza with some friends and then shaun and i went to harddrive.com's warehouse down in clear lake city, to see if they would be interested in sponsoring the lan club that leif and i are forming. turns out that not only are they interested in providing stuff like door prizes for the club (which is what we were really hoping for), they want to supply us: a huge facility for holding the parties, monitors for every person there for use at the party (keep in mind, these are 150+-person ordeals), large plasma tvs for use with console games (can we say "ddr"?) and custom door prizes (such as case stickers with the lan club logo on them, since they have a vinyl cutter). shaun and i just about died when we heard that. we knew there was a reason we liked these people. and by the way, i want gift certificates there for my birthday. i was like a kid in a candy shop.
so then i went to practice, and, having forgotten that i needed to go home first, found myself in marching practice wearing my plastic speedo sandals, which, by the way, are marching band, errr.... contraband. director yelled at me to go get appropriate band shoes. which meant going all the way home to change shoes. you know, it's not that big of a deal. i wasn't having any problem marching in them. at least i got to miss an (assumedly) excused half-hour of band practice, so *shrug*. it was his loss.
then we had the italian dinner, which is a fundraiser we do for band, where carabba's donates salad, pasta, chicken marsala, and bread and stuff, and everyone purchases a meal. carabba's has some of the best food in town... mmm, but it's expensive, so this is usually the one time of year i get to have it. it was good.
aaannnnddd.... plano tomorrow! looking forward to totally skipping pep rally and last half of school, though i'm a little broken up about having to miss the football game on saturday. this has been the wackiest marching season. the first game they had just replaced our grass, so the field felt like playdough. second game was almost rained out, and since it had been raining all week, we got no practicing done and consequently sucked. last week, it was too wet, so we didn't wear uniforms or go onto the field to march, so we just played in the stands. and then this week's game got moved to saturday at a different stadium, making it impossible for many people to go, so they'll be marching a show with about 50 holes in it. man, i can't wait for contest. it's going to be horrible. it's a shame, though, because the music is so good. west side story. but anyway, plano... we're leaving tomorrow in fourth period, and then taking charter buses, so i'm currently trying to think of everything to pack... i have quiz bowl shirt, and two sets of clothes, cd player, book, batteries, homework (hmm, wonder where i could get a copy of the crucible to work on memorizing lines?), goldfish for snacking purposes... ::goes to pack::

long week i'm updating now, so i can actually get this posted before something else pulls me away from the computer.
plano was obviously fun... we didn't win for the varsity bracket (none of our varsity teams did), but our junior varsity a team won for the jv bracket. so they got a trophy and stuff. monday, we came to school to find that a girl who had gone to our school had died of a brain aneurysm. everyone was totally dragging everywhere and all of the people who knew her were crying in the halls all day. it just threw a dejected mood over the school. tuesday, wednesday, and thursday, i didn't get home until at least 9:00 each night due to band, piano, nhs induction (finally in nhs! whee!), etc. and i was out until 12:00 for the football game on friday. so i really haven't had any kind of chance to update this.
yesterday was a blast. about noon, mom was going to get her hair cut up at a place by my school, and megan, allen, and i came along. while she was getting that done, we walked around at got drinks at a fast food place and just kind of enjoyed the good weather. then we drove over to show allen where my new parking spot (!!!) was because he wanted to be able to look for my car whenever his bus went past my school. ;o) we went to barnes & noble just to hang out and let my sister get rid of some of her gift cards she'd gotten for her birthday. i ended up buying a pretty cool trivia book with all kinds of questions.
then we went to the mall, and we had lunch together. i also went by sam goody and got the new fuel cd with my gift certificates i get every once in a while from being in their replay members' club. i didn't have to pay anything for it. :o) i love that store. we decided not to go home before going to church, but allen and megan needed various items of apparel to make them presentable, so we ran to target and bought them some cheap clothes. :op after church, we came home and all put in an hour of work on anything that needed to be done (i think we all just worked on homework) and then we phoned in an order of indian food to go. i went and picked it up, and then we came back and had a stargate-a-thon. which was awesome. i ended up falling asleep during the fourth episode we watched. all in all, a great day.
so that brings us up to now. i just looked at my pile of rebate information for my hard drive and realized that it's no longer valid after 30 days of the purchase. today is like 35 days after or something. arg! that's like $100 down the drain. meh. oh well, it's money i've already paid. i just won't be getting anything back that i was expecting. le sigh. also have to go to confirmation class, that kind of sucks. anyway, at least i've updated. :op

this part-blog, part-phlog is an unreliably updated account of my adventures and misadventures. it has no real cohesive theme, but i'm apt at any moment to digress into rants on language, politics, film, and technology, or anything else that interests me at the time. for more about me and this blog, click here.
